We see all kind of incidents and people at any international airport but things really took a dramatic turn for the Air Asia Flight To Kuala Lumpur on the night of 18th July. An Australian tourist started banging on the cockpit door while the plane just started taxiing. He started yelling that someone was trying to kill him.
For safety reasons & protocols pilot decided to return to the apron and cancelling the flight. Same was confirmed by Ngurah Rai airport communications and legal chief, Arie Ahsanurrohin.
However it was just the beginning of the freak out as the Australian man didn't stop there, back on the airport he climbed up to a narrow ledge of the second floor and started shouting and screaming. An Austrian good samaritan tried to calm him down, discussing and negotiating with so he can get off the ledge but it didn't work eventually a group of officers had to intervene and wrestle the man down to end the 90 minute chaotic scene.
Upon inquiring the reason the Aussie claimed that he wasn't trying to kill himself he was just trying to bring himself in the attention of the government officials which he referred as corrupt. “I wanted to bring attention to certain situation regarding government officials, that’s why I thought I could do it,” Butler said, at one point apparently suggesting he meant Australian officials.
Upon further investigation and inspection anti depressant medications were found on the Aussie tourist. He was eventually set free but after giving required sedatives and moved to Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar in an ambulance for psychiatric and medical testing.
