Bali will host the G20 Summit in November of this
year. The Bali government has stated that a VVIP entrance will be built at the
island's only international airport ahead of the major conference.
Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and
Public Housing, acknowledged that development is already started and 20%
completed. The goal is to make arrivals for global leaders and their teams as
simple and efficient as possible.
Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali now has two passenger
terminals, one for domestic flights within Indonesia and another for
international flights.
The new VVIP terminal will host Presidents, Prime
Ministers, nobility, and global officials to Bali. The VVIP terminal will be
available to world leaders in technology, commerce, and other industries who
have been invited to the conference.
Minister Hadimuljono stated in an official statement
issued on Monday, May, 30th, that "Bali, which will be the center of the
place for the G20 Summit with the concept 'Recover Together, Recover Stronger,'
will be made more environment acceptable through steps to enhance regional
infrastructure supported by tremendous reforestation efforts."
The revelation of large reforestation initiatives will
be welcomed by environmentalists who have highlighted the massive ecological
impact of summits such as the G20, which entail thousands of people traveling
mostly on private jets to distant locations for a two-day event.
The VVIP terminal's construction is being overseen by
PT Wijaya Karya, a private construction contractor with a budget of IDR 51
billion (USD 350 million). The budget does not just cover the development of
the VVIP terminal; the funds will also be used to upgrade the airport's
security perimeter and other infrastructure upkeep at the main airport.
The current VIP terminal will also be renovated, as
will the cargo terminal, to ensure the event runs well.
Minister Hadimuljono went on to explain, "This is
the first destination visited by the G20 Summit's heads of state." I hope
that good collaboration between agencies is maintained to ensure smooth and
precise work'.
It is important for Indonesia's reputation on the
global stage that the summit goes off without a hitch. The planners are
dedicated to fulfilling President Jokowi's aim for the G20 Summit to promote
peace and harmony among nations.
As the G20 Summit approaches, there will be a
concerted effort throughout Bali to assure that the island appears well-kept in
the aftermath of the pandemic. These initiatives are not merely intended to
impress foreign leaders. As the tourism business recovers from the epidemic, it
is dependent on travelers having a positive experience. The importance of
infrastructure in the smooth operation of tourism operations is often
neglected.
It is intended that the long-term legacy of G20
initiatives will benefit both residents and the tourist industry, thereby
improving the experience of visitors to Bali. While not everyone will have
accessibility to the VVIP terminal, the airport's overall enhancements will
enhance passenger satisfaction.
Earlier in 2022, Bali Airport management reported that
free 5G coverage has been installed in the domestic terminal. They verified
that 5G coverage will be extended to the international terminal as soon as
possible.
Since the opening of borders in February 2022, Bali
Airport has been a busy place. Tourism numbers soared by more than
1000% in the first quarter of 2022, owing largely to the removal of travel
bans. The visa on arrival system in Indonesia is now open to tourists from 72
countries, and the pre-arrival PCR test for vaccinated travelers has been
abolished.
