Wayan Koster, The Governor of Bali has urged for stricter adherence of following the health protocols as the worrisome rise in the cases of Corona Virus on the Island. He made a statement on Thursday on bringing back the restrictions on activities that were implemented in the earlier days of the outbreak.

“This circular intends to … ensure there are no new COVID-19 cases in Bali by strengthening prevention and control efforts across different sectors,” a circular issued today, signed by the governor, reads.

On an average Bali has been reporting over 100 cases daily for almost two weeks now even though we have also seen a considerable decrease in the numbers this week. The latest data shows 63 new cases today, bringing the provincial tally to 7,492.

Koster has asked for support from civil societies, businesses, regional leaders and the members of the public to “join hands and work together” in raising awareness and educating communities with matters related to COVID-19 prevention and precaution.

The new circular has again laid out restrictions on large gatherings, religious ceremonies while reinstating the previous restrictions on public activities. Offices whether public or private are to allowed to operate on only 25 percent capacity while the students are expected to study from home.

However with all this Bali is still open to the domestic tourism, though the administration has started to impose limitations on public facilities and tourist attractions which normally invite the crowds.

The Governor has also called for stricter testing, tracing, quarantine for confirmed and suspected cases. Increasing medical treatment capacity, including adding treatment rooms dedicated for COVID-19 patients, preparing emergency hospitals, and providing shelters for health workers are all deemed to be essential steps to combat the crisis.
