The police has started an operation called "Operasi Patuh Jaya 2017" across Indonesia. The operation will be held for 14 days from 9th May till 22nd May 2017. This operation will target traffic violators and foreign tourists are not excluded from this. Beware as you are not going to be allowed to walk around as carefree without a shirt or in a bikini as you used to.

"Tourists who don’t wear shirts or only wear a bikini will not be fined, but they we will sent back to their hotels (to change, we presume. Ed),” said AA Made Sudana, Head of the Bali Traffic Police.

Sudana further explained that the need of this operation based on the data. In 2016 46 cases of accidents were reported which caused deaths of 15 people. The total number of accidents in Bali in the year 2016 reached up to 25000 while 5000 accidents have already been reported till April 2017.

He further ensured the public that they will keep a strong check on their personnel for collecting illegal fines. As police have now implemented E-Tilang (E-ticketing) to avoid any illegal fines. But if the public was confronted by any dishonest police officer he implored them to report the case immediately.
