A recent listings at a canadian based website privateislandsonline.com showed various Islands of Indonesia for sale. These listings included “Gili Tangkong Island” in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and “Sumba Island Properties” in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). It’s not immediately clear how much they cost, as prices are only available upon request.
The canadian website describes itself as " “the foremost global marketplace for private island sales and rentals,”. However it is a hoax as authorities of country has confirmed since these listings made the national news headlines.
This might similar to you as it has happened before with the same website in January 2018 when Ajab Island — located near the famous resort island of Bintan in the Riau Islands province — was listed for IDR44 billion (US$3.1million).
National Police has dismissed the Sumba listing as a hoax same has been done by officers from West Lombok sub-precinct have declared the same for the Gili Tangkong listing.
Other listings have yet to be addressed by the authorities on the website, however Teuku Taufiqulhadi, Special Staff to the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning said any sale or purchase of Islands in Indonesia is illegal.
“In Indonesia, a big or small island is part of our sovereignty. There is no way we would sell our sovereignty,” Teuku said.
Indonesia has more than 17000 Islands scattered across sprawling archipelago, 6000 of which are reportedly inhabited.
