Therefore, we would like to alert our readers that a new regulation concerning the procedure for application and issuance of Visa on Arrival (VoA), Visit Visa (Visa Kunjungan) and Temporary Stay Visa (VITAS) recently took force. Signed by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, the new regulation took effect in late 2016.

So we bring you the latest update regarding the new regulations about the visa application and the issuance on arrival (VoA), Visa Kunjungan (Visit Visa) and VITAS (temporary stay visa). The new changes are signed by the Minister of Justice and human rights, these regulations became effective in late 2016.
Generally Indonesia is already very facilitating towards the tourist with their visa free program. However immigration faces a lot of undue political pressure in controlling and monitoring the foreigners, expats living in Indonesia. These new regulations are a great new step in that direction.
We outline the main points of interest within the new regulation below.
General
- A person can be issued one valid visa only. We received inquiries in the past from users having valid visit visa if they can get another VOA at Port of Entrance in addition to the Visit VIsa they already have. The reason behind this inquiry was to keep their visit visa for another return later on after a short visit on VOA. The answer is a clear now: NO
- Any visa issued must be utilized within 90 days of issuance.
- In case of rejection for the Visa, the applicant will be notified however reason for rejection will not be provided to the applicant nor to their sponsor. This is one of the most major changes.
- Visa can be canceled for many reason it also includes the sponsor canceling it. As mentioned above visa holder will be notified without the detail of cancellation reason. However if the foreigner is eligible for VOA or free entry, the port of entrance can issue the visa to allow legal entry in lieu of the cancelled visa.
Visa on Arrival (VoA) and Visit Visa (formerly Sosial Budaya Visa)
- There is no requirement of minimum amount for day to day cost covering for VOA applicant.
- Single or multiple entry applicants now require to prove they have at least USD$1500 to cover their cost of living during their stay in Indonesia.
- Applicant for Visit Visa ( VOA, Multiple Entry or Single Entry) is required to provide a return ticket or onward ticket of their further destination.
- Applicant's passport must be valid for at least 6 months to apply for Single Entery Visit Visa (Visa Kunjungan Sekali Perjalanan)
- Applicant's passport must be valid for at least 6 years to apply for a Multiple Entry Visit Visa (Visa Kunjungan Beberapa Kali Perjalanan)
- New Multiple Visit Visa are valid for 5 years with a restriction of each visit not exceeding 60 days. Previously it had 1 year validity.
- You can apply for Multiple Entry Visit Visa now for several reasons including family reunion, trading business, tourism or other business purposes with office representatives in Indonesia.
Temporary Stay Visa (VITAS)
- Tourists can now avail VITAS from 30 days, 90 days, 6 months to 2 year depending on category in which they fall.
- Applicant's passport must have following validity to apply for VITAS:
12 months of validity for a VITAS allowing a 6 months stay or less.
18 months of validity for a VITAS allowing a 1 year stay,
30 months of validity for a VITAS allowing a 2 years stay.
