La Sicilia, One of the famous restaurant in Oberoi Area caught explosive fire on early hours of Satuday morning. The fire is believed to have been caused by explosions of gas cylinders. No casualties or fatalities have been reported so far.
The fire was first noticed by the security guards which got their attention through the sound of explosion which came from the second floor of the five story building. The smoke was followed by the explosion and it didn't take long for the fire to spread through the entire second floor.
Security guards immediately called the fire fighters who arrived at the scene as quickly as they can around 5 am. The scene was handled by at least 9 fire trucks and were able to control the damage by 6:15 am. Police is however investigating whether it was an arson or an accidental fire as they have not determined the cause of fire yet.
The police chief further confirmed that restaurant mainly operates in its ground and first floor, while 3rd-5th floor are still underconstruction. They are also looking for possibility of the gas leak.
The Manager confirmed in his statement to the police that the restaurant was closed at the time of incident. He further explained that they normally close around 2 am and they make sure to switch off the entire electricity, candles and hence the complete shut down of the restaurant. He has also stated that he is a little doubtful if it was completely shut down that day and they have left it for the police to find out.
