Bali Airport was shutdown on Monday which resulted in disrupting the schedule of at least 20 flights. Most of these flights were then diverted to Surabaya. The airport shut down lasted for at least an hour and was caused due to heavy rain fall.
“For safety reasons, Airnav has issued the Notice to Airman (Notam),” the airport’s Head of Public Relations Arie Ahsanurrohim said in Kuta on Monday. The warning issued by Notam was applied between 7:45 am to 9:30 am. It was due to limited visibility because of the continuous downpour.
There were at least 13 planes that were unable to take off and 7 which couldn't land because of the severe weather. These flights include both domestic and International travels. Visibility was hardly 100 meters on Monday during the time Ngura Rai Airport shut down. The average visibility is set to be at least 800 meters.
