The first "River Plastic Report" was published by the Bali-based community association, Sungai Watch, a community river cleanup organization that have the mission to protect waterways, starting in Bali, Indonesia Send them a photo with an exact pin and they’ll clean it up.

They believe that simple Trash Barriers can serve as a way to stop the leakage of plastic pollution into the ocean. Rivers are perfect connection between life on land and the ocean.

Since August 2020, they have collected 240,000 pounds of trash. They are developing and testing simple trash barrier to prevent plastic from entering into our ocean and partner with the Indonesian government for mass cleanups. Do you want to see their project so far? Please see this video link

The environmental media outlet Make a Change World was launched in 2020, and they spent much of their time creating self-design waste obstacles in significant rivers across South Bali. One of the widely found things rescued from Sungai Watch's voluntary cleaning collection is styrofoam, bags, metals, and straws.

The volunteers collected 5.2 tons of plastic from banks of the river throughout southwestern Bali alone in August and September of the past year, but the surprising finding illuminates who the biggest polluters are. The given information had been gathered manually by their full-time staff and volunteer groups who have sorted garbage from trash and recycling bins between August and September 2020 from cleanup work. The largest polluting corporation in Indonesia, the Wings Corp. with 1,928 bits, and Unilever with 1,625 pieces is Indonesia's number one bottled water producer, Danone AQUA, with 2,834 pieces of plastic.

The PLASTIC bottle, a 2.3 percent of the total waste collected, is one of the most symbolic materials found on the waterways. A large percentage of the 48 different brand names were water bottles made by Danone AQUA and 1,456 bottles, and The Pucuk Harum, Sprite, Coca Cola and Pocari Sweat were pursued. Plastic cups, also regarded as the worst form of plastic waste, are a big culprit. Four brands were found out of the 5,116 manufactured cups with AQUA (Danone), along with The Gelas (Orang Tua), Okay Jelly Drink (Suntory), Brew Ale and (Wings Surya). The multifaceted sachet, which is seldom suitable for recycling, is another concern. Complete 15,856 individual bags, such as instant noodles, coffee packs, cleaners, and snacks, have been obtained by the squad, and 336 brands of 86 companies have been listed. ABC Kopi and Mie Sedaap's were the most common sachets found.

Cans, metal, glass bottles, while unbranded trash consisting mainly of plastic bags and sandals are included in several branded waste. It’s important to note that whilst there is no direct, extended producer liability under law, there is a moral responsibility. Blame also falls into the users and litters of course, but at the end of the day companies continue to create, promote and popularize said products. Some brands have worked to alleviate their strain on the environment, but unless the problems/products in these reports are addressed, the scenario does not change enough.

Keep Bali Clean - Save River, it will save you consequently.
