Bestival Bali, the successful boutique festival that hails from the south of England, hits the island’s Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park for 2 days of great onstage music performances with an international line-up of DJs and bands playing drum & bass, hip hop, funk and all manner of other dancey genres, complemented by food markets and large-scale art installations. The festival is on a mission, ‘to spread peace and love to Asia’, and is held on the weekend of September 30 and October 1, 2017.

Weekend Line-Up at Bestival Bali
Alt-J
English indie and experimental rock band Alt-J formed in 2007, and its debut album An Awesome Wave was released in May 2012 in Europe and September 2012 in the United States, eventually leading to the band winning the 2012 British Mercury Prize. Their second album, This Is All Yours, was released 2 years later and went straight to UK number one.
Rudimental
Mercury Prize 2013-nominee and award-winning UK drum and bass band, Rudimental, are known for their 2012 hit single Feel the Love, featuring singer John Newman. The British quartet is slated to bring their organic take on modern drum and bass, as well as their excellent use of guest vocalists to Bali.
De La Soul
American hip hop trio De La Soul gained fame with their eclectic sampling and quirky lyrics, and became well-known for contributing to the emergence of subgenres such as jazz rap and alternative hip hop. Fun wordplay, innovative sampling and witty skits are some of their attributes, which they’re expected to display onstage at this next Bestival.
George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic
This collective headed by George Clinton since 1968 plays American funk, soul and rock, with a style often dubbed ‘P-Funk’. Since the 60s, they’ve been known for their musicality and politically charged lyrics, and not to mention, extraordinary stage performances, ultimately influencing subsequent post-disco groups of the 80s and 90s.
Purity Ring
Canadian electronic music duo Purity Ring formed in 2010 and brought to the world ‘future pop’. Their 2021 album, Shrines, blends deep bass and a mix of ethereal and melodic electronic samples played by Corin Riddick with the sweet voice of Megan James. The result of their performances make for strange but beautiful and steady listening.
The Cuban Brothers
This funk soul band puts on quite a stage act, presenting soul with some jaw-dropping, tight-leotard-wearing b-boying action and acrobatics, deliberately thick accents and downright riotous humour. Now, it has become quite a legendary outfit selling out shows worldwide. Prepare to be entertained, laugh and be amazed when they finally come to Bali.
Stars and Rabbit Haunting chant-like but melodic vocals by singer and songwriter Elda, paired with simple acoustic arrangements by Adi, sums up this duo from Yogyakarta, Indonesia pretty much. Much of the melancholic songs seemingly derive their influences from North American and traditional Southeast Asian folk, resulting in a unique sound.
Ras Muhamad Spicing up the stage with cool reggae is Indonesian performer Ras Muhamad. His debut studio album Declaration of Truth was released while he was living in Brooklyn, bringing him popularity in his home country. Upon returning, he released his debut studio album Reggae Ambassador, which brought him awards and nominations for the genre.
