It seems like residents of Bali's village Samsam Village, Kerambitan, Tabanan have had enough of people littering in their village. They have decided to take things in their own hand and have started fining a hefty amount of RP 5 Million to the violators. Keeping the fact in consideration that recently littering in Bali has increased due to increased tourism and it has majorly affected the beauty and serenity of the Island of God. We believe it is a step in the right direction.

The new rule has been set to encourage villagers and anyone traveling there to keep them in check and prevent the littering. It isn't just the fine system but they also have introduced a reward system. Anyone highlighting or pointing out the litterers can apparently get Rp500k however they are considering a better solution for that so it doesn't turn into what he said she said situation.

It doesn’t just apply to residents of Samsam Village. Anyone can get the reward if they find someone throwing garbage, which will incur a Rp 5 million fine,” Samsam Traditional Village head, I Dewa Nyoman Triasa recently stated.

Samsam Village secretary, Made Adi also confirmed that the village's trash and rubbish was becoming a major concern recently. However a major improvement have been seen after imposing the heavy penalty as there was a spot on the edge of the town where almost everyone including the villagers were often found dumping trash.

“Before the customary rule, many people would throw garbage there secretly, like it was a landfill,” Adi explained..
