There are two emergencies COVID-19 hospitals in Bali
formally opened today, one of a total of 14 buildings recently transformed into
healthcare facilities by Indonesian government in response to an increase in
coronavirus infections.
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) has
allegedly converted Wisma Werdhapura in Denpasar and Wisma Bima in Badung into
emergency hospitals, as COVID-19 cases in the province and throughout Indonesia
continue to rise. The government stated that Werdhapura has 121 intensive care
unit (ICU) beds, but has yet to disclose additional details to Bima.
Four emergency hospitals opened today in Yogyakarta,
and others, including those in Bandung and Surabaya, are slated to open later
this week.
Since late June, the bed occupancy rate in Bali has
more than quadrupled, with Bangli, Buleleng, and Klungkung regencies currently
at 100 percent occupancy on its ICU. Only on Saturday did the province register
its highest daily new infection count, at 1,019 instances, with about 7,300
individuals presently receiving treatment as of today.
According to provincial government data, Bali's
existing hospitals have a total of 266 ICU beds. Currently, over 70% of the
beds — or 186 beds — are filled.
